Hampshire's Vision Statement:  "For all children in Hampshire to experience. . . excellent physical education, school sport and physical activity that will lead to life long participation".

At Mengham Infant School we believe this begins in Years R, 1 and 2 and hope the children continue their love of exercise and understanding about keeping fit and healthy throughout their lives.

We value developing our teaching of PE by using sports coaches to upskill our staff.

Every class has the opportunity to do two PE sessions a week to include a mixture of gymnastics, games, dance, athletics and Real PE.

Some children have the chance to attend sports festivals throughout the year such as football, gymnastics, tennis, tri-golf, dance etc.

We have a Health & Fitness week every year which comprises a whole week dedicated to enjoying sport and keeping healthy.  We aspire to the olympic / paralympic values of:

1. Friendship
2. Respect
3. Excellence
4. Determination
5. Inspiration
6. Courage

7. Equality

On Tuesdays Carol Iggleden from the Sports Partnership delivers Real PE and Real Gym lessons to Year 1 and 2.

During the summer terms 2017 we also have an FA Skills Coach, Taylor Monk, coming in during the school day to work with all our children.  Each class has a 50 minute session with Taylor where the children learn football skills, teamwork and responsibility and at the same time have fun and grow in confidence.

Well done to all the children who attended Mrs Iggleden’s Gym club on a Tuesday afternoon and took part in the festival at Havant Academy on 8th February.

The children had to demonstrate a learned gym routine and a vault on a bench. The children had great fun and came 3rd place overall. They all received a certificate in assembly to celebrate their achievement.

Ball skills festival 22 November 2016

Well done to our Year 2 children who took part in the Ball skills festival at Horndean Technology College on 22nd November. It was a silver level festival and we did so well to all win medals. One team came home with Gold medals and the other came home with Bronze medals. Their behaviour and sportsmanship was amazing .

Health and Fitness Week

We had an energetic Summer term at school with lots of sporting activities, our Health and Fitness week and even running a marathon (yes , the whole 26.2 miles) before the summer Olympics in Rio!

Our Summer term ended with a whole week dedicated to enjoying Health and Fitness.

On Monday  11th  July the whole school went to Queen Elizabeth Country Park for a day of using our senses to explore the environment.

On Tuesday , we had multiskills sessions with Ben Johnson.

On Wednesday Taylor Monk from the Football  Association taught us how to improve our skills on the pitch!

We had our Sports day on Friday 15th July where everyone took part in competitive races whilst having a great day. The whole school had smiles on their faces!

A Marathon before Rio!

We decided to challenge ourselves to run a whole marathon before the summer Olympics in Rio. We ran a mile at a time around the field, marking off each mile on our wall chart. The children and staff loved the challenge and the way the exercise made them feel!  We completed the 26.2 miles just in time for the summer holidays! Every child got a certificate to treasure, as this was a great accomplishment. I know this will become an annual event in our school!
