Governor Welcome

On behalf of the Governors I would like to welcome you to Mengham Infant School.  We are delighted that you have chosen our school as the place where your child will learn and grow.  We work hard to ensure a smooth transition into the school and we hope your child quickly settles into their new class.

As a governing body we have three core functions: to ensure a clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school; to hold the leaders of the school to account for the education of pupils and performance of the staff; and to oversee the financial performance of the school.  We do this by being a ‘critical friend’; offering both challenge and support to the school staff to ensure that the following things are happening:

We try to ensure that the whole school environment is a safe place where children feel secure and able to enjoy learning.

We are passionate about education and ambitious in our belief that each child, no matter what their context, level of education or skill, can learn and develop in understanding and knowledge at this school.

Our aim is to ensure that every lesson is of the highest quality so that each child can progress.

Our school is a learning environment, but not just for the children.  The professional development of all the staff is a high priority.

Governors, along with the Headteacher, set targets each year to ensure that the school is continually improving and getting better. We then monitor our progress on achieving these targets and ask challenging questions if this is not happening.

Governors regularly check the state of the school property and the way our finances are being used to achieve best value.

Everything we do is to ensure that your children are safe and learning and growing as best they can.  We are very approachable, so if you see us at school events, etc., do come up and chat. And if you feel you might like to be part of the interesting and rewarding work of being a governor then please ask at the office for more details.

Lastly, we recognise the invaluable work done by you, the parents and carers.  So, as your child begins their education at Mengham Infant School, we would like to thank you for all the ways you will support their learning over the next few years.
