Welcome to Year 1

Year 1 have two classes, Sharks and Stingrays. Mrs Topazio-Collis and Mrs Rogers are in Sharks and Mrs O’Brien, Mrs Simms and Mrs Thomson are in Stingrays.

Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. On these days children are to come to school in their PE kits: black shorts, white t-shirt and trainser/plimsolls and the usual school jumper or cardigan. If your child is doing an after school sports club, please make sure that they have a separate kit to use.

Phonics

Our school phonics scheme is: Twinkl Phonics

We are currently learning our level 5 sounds. Alongside learning the new sounds, we are practising level 2,3 and 4 sounds and tricky words. Please note there are no new ‘sounds’ within level 4, however children do practise reading adjacent consonants. Children need to be confident in recognising all level 2,3,4 and 5 sounds and tricky words to support their reading as well as use these sounds and tricky words within their writing.
