Sports Premium Funding

In March 2013, the Government announced new funding for PE and school sport for the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15.  This has now been extended until 2016 with a further commitment from the Government to continue the premium until 2020 should they stay in government.  The purpose of this funding is for schools to improve the quality of sport and PE for all their children.  This funding can only be spent on the provision of sport and PE but schools will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Funding is calculated by the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11) as at the annual census in January 2013, January 2014 and January 2015.  All schools with 17 or more primary-aged pupils will receive a lump sum of £8000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil.

Schools will be held to account for how they spend this funding and will be assessed by Ofsted on how effectively it is being used to improve the quality of their provision.  Schools are required to include details on their website so parents can compare sports & PE provision between schools.

£8000.00   Lump Sum
  £570.00   114 children (Census Jan 2013 5-7 year olds - £5 per pupil)

Our allocation of funding during this academic year was spent on employing our PE Co-ordinator, who is already our sports specialist, for an additional day per week to:

The cost of all festivals attended (gym/rackets/tri-golf) came out of this grant along with the purchase of sports equipment.

Funding for the academic year 2014/15:

£8000.00   Lump Sum
 £590.00    118 children (Census Jan 2014 5-7 year olds - £5 per pupil)

£8590.00   Total

Our allocation of funding during this academic year was spent on employing our PE Co-ordinator, who is already our sports specialist, for an additional day per week during the summer term only to continue to build on our PE and sports programme.

During the autumn and spring terms we employed a PE specialist from the Havant and Waterlooville School Sports Partnership who came in one day a week to further extend the skills and knowledge of our staff and children and to ensure we had the best sports programme in place.  The PE specialist together with our PE Co-ordinator designed a new programme for 2014-15 which ensured we continued to build on our already excellent programme.

We also took part in sports festivals with other schools and purchased PE and sports equipment necessary to fulfil our goals.

Funding for the academic year 2015/16:

£8000.00   Lump Sum
  £500.00   100 children (Census Jan 2015 5-7 year olds - £5 per pupil)

£8500.00   Total

Our allocation of funding during this academic year will be mostly spent on continuing to employ our PE specialist, Carol Iggleden, from the Havant and Waterlooville School Sports Partnership. She comes in one day a week and is working with our teachers and children to continually improve our PE/sports provision. Carol and our PE Co-ordinator, Mel Simms, will work closely together throughout the year to ensure that our sports programme continues to meet the needs of our children and the KS1 curriculum.

We will also continue to take part in sports festivals with other schools and ensure we have all the required PE and sports equipment necessary to fulfil our goals.  During the autumn term some of our Year 2 children attended a football festival (see link to this on the PE page).  During the spring children some of our Year 1 and 2 children attended a gym festival.  During the summer term an FA skills festival is planned for our Year R children.  Some children have also attended Change4Life festivals which have included various activities with the aim of building up a child's life skills and confidence.

Funding for the academic year 2016/17:

£8000.00   Lump Sum

£515.00   103 children (Census Jan 2016 5-7 year olds - £5 per pupil)

£8515.00   Total

We continue to use this funding to employ our PE specialist, Carol Iggleden, from the Havant and Waterlooville School Sports Partnership. She comes in one day a week and is working with our teachers and children to continually improve our PE/sports provision. Carol and our PE Co-ordinator, Mel Simms, will work closely together throughout the year to ensure that our sports programme continues to meet the needs of our children and the KS1 curriculum.  This year the focus will be on Gymnastics in Year Two Dance and Games activities in Year One. Both Year Groups will follow the Real PE scheme.

This arrangement ensures our continued involvement in a variety of sports festivals with other schools throughout the school year. Mrs Iggleden also offers lunchtime activities throughout the year which are designed to improved the health and wellbeing of the whole school community. These range from athletics clubs and change for life clubs to yoga activities.

In order to ensure the sustainability of the improvements ensured by the intervention of a sports coach all teachers are required to observe Mrs Iggleden teach for their own professional development. Mrs Iggleden also works alongside teachers coaching them to use the skills required to ensure the best outcomes for children’s physical development.
