What a busy start to Y1 we have had. The children are settling in well and getting used to all our Y1 routines.

In English we have been building on the skills the children have learnt in YR but now we are writing in exercise books and all the children are trying really hard. We will be sharing children’s targets at parents evening soon.

In Phonics, we have begun learning Level 5 and the children are now trying to use the new sounds they have learnt in their writing.

We have been making ‘teen’ numbers in Maths, using various resources and recording our ideas using part, part whole models, tens frames and number lines. We have been practising counting forwards and backwards verbally and ensuring when we write our numbers they are the correct way round.

Stingrays and Sharks have learnt how to upload independent activities onto Seesaw, please have a look and see what your child has been up to! As the term progresses, there will be more challenges on Seesaw for the children to complete in class that you can see.

In Music, we have been looking at pitch and playing high and low notes on the xylophone. The children particularly enjoyed experimenting with the instruments.

Please continue to read with your children at home, it really makes a difference and record it in their new reading diary. Thank you so much for your ongoing support.
